Until I sold my restaurants in December of 2004, I had been a pizza restaurant (25 years) and Subway sandwich shop (3 years) owner and manager. The POS I was currently using worked fine, but I wanted more. Other POS systems I looked at were hard to use, and VERY expensive. With my experience and knowledge of the industry, in 2000 I began to develop a POS system to use in my pizza restaurant. Because I worked in my restaurant every day, I knew what I needed from a POS system to make my job easier and the store more profitable. That summer I ran into a couple of friends (Tim & Colin) who are Slackware Linux guys and they convinced me to use Linux. I've NEVER looked back or regretted it. This POS system has evolved from many years of use and refinement and is configurable for almost any type of restaurant application.

From setting up networks to building computers, I've always been a big hardware guy and have basically been a one man IT department for quite a while in previous positions. With Ultrux I've been able to take that a step further and do custom systems integration on a whole new level. Touchscreen drivers, screensavers, remote management, remote support, tablet support and portable event systems, I've had a hand in them all. Having the birds eye view of the entire system and my own programming and database experience also helps me act as a second set of eyes on complex programming problems. In the field, this has let me generate custom reports for users that we now include in our software. What does a point of sale system not do yet or do right? Let me know, it may be my next project to include in ours.
